The Triangle Youth Music Intern Program gives TYM members the opportunity to serve as an intern from the month of September to the month of May. The TYM Musician Intern Program is a open to juniors and seniors in high school, who audition in August and are selected for a TYM ensemble, or who participate in one of our non-auditioned groups.
The application is available to students who have been accepted into a TYM ensemble via their welcome email. Applicants may be asked to complete a brief interview before the final decision is made. Each season, 10-12 interns will be accepted. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 4 hours each month, made up of one monthly meeting, and various intern assignments.
The purpose of the Triangle Youth Music Internship Program is to give participants the opportunity to participate in various administrative aspects of TYM. As a member of this program, musicians will learn about and participate in the management, marketing, and operations of a non-profit arts organization.
The program is designed to ensure participants have the opportunity to experience many of the tasks involved in the management of an arts organization. Each intern will participate in tasks related to the following areas of arts administration: stage crew, videography, social media, outreach, and musician library. Tasks may include, but are not limited to: attending monthly intern meetings, attending social media and videography planning meetings, managing social media, creating advertisements, helping set up and tear down for rehearsals and concerts, manning booths at performances and festivals, filing music and preparing music folders, writing thank you letters to donors, and participating in the planning, set-up, and management of one special event. Interns will be well trained on all selected tasks either by the Operations Manager and/or the Executive Director.
This internship offers high school students the rare opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the business and music world. Participants will develop skills, leadership, and responsibility valuable for any degree program and career and especially valuable to those degrees and careers related to business and/or the arts. In addition to work experience, participants will have opportunities to serve TYM and the community and can earn volunteer hours by doing so. Participants in the program will receive the official designation of
Triangle Youth Music Intern and will be treated professionally.

I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to work with fellow jazz lovers and to help this wonderful program take “Giant Steps” in the right direction. There is nothing more gratifying then helping build a community where talented musicians can come together and share their love of music. Personally, I am excited to learn about the backstage dynamics to managing a jazz band.

I've been apart of TYM ever since I was 9 years old - this final year in TYP makes it my 9th year being in this organization! Being a TYM Intern gives me an insight on how things in the background work and how much work goes into making TYM happen. It will also allow me to be able to give back to TYM after so many years of being able to play in a youth symphony!

I enjoyed being a Student Intern last year and gained a lot of hands-on experience as well as witnessing the behind-the-scenes of TYM runs! It also made me realize what I would like to pursue in the future (something related to Marketing). I'm excited for all the upcoming TYM events and meeting new people my age who have similar interests and enjoy music as much as I do.
Bassoon, TYP
I had a lot of fun last year and I’m excited to take what I learned and do even cooler things!

I'm excited to be a TYM intern so that I can learn more about how I can be involved with orchestra outside of performing, and so I can help a program that I've been a part of for a long time.

String Bass, TYP
I am excited to be an intern because it will give me more opportunities in college.
Flute, TYS
I really love being of TYM as a musician. I just wanted to give back to the organization by using other skills and experiences I have outside of the music sphere! I’m excited to understand how various areas intertwine to create TYM and how I, as an individual, can play a bigger part in that.
Violin, TYS
I am a lover of music and all things related.
